And it’s July! Wow, 2018 sometimes goes fast, sometimes it goes slow, and sometimes I often wish I were dead. But I have movies in the meantime, and that’s good enough for me.

The most important, special news is that it’s Barnes & Noble sale time for all your Criterion needs. That means you can get the newly released Dietrich & Von Sternberg boxset, which includes classics like Shanghai Express and Blonde Venus, for only $62. There’s also the recently released King of Jazz restoration for only $19, which I need to bite the bullet on myself.

TCM this month has some really great selections. Who can get mad at a month that has programming blocks dedicated to Joan Blondell (7/2), Barbara Stanwyck (7/16), remarkably bad doctors (7/20), and a murderer’s row of the best pre-Codes ever made on the 31st?

Filmstruck isn’t quite as heavy, with only two pre-Codes added this month, What Price Hollywood? and Little Women. (They’re also both showing on TCM, so you really have no excuse not to watch them.)

Today’s header is from 1934’s Gambling Lady with Barbara Stanwyck and Joel McCrea, which plays on July 16th on TCM. Thanks to Doctor Macro for the image.

Lastly, just a friendly a reminder: if you want to support my site, you can become a Patron over at Patreon. I may actually post a bonus something this month, I almost promise. Cheers!
