Pre-Code.Com Site News for June 2014

Life in Japan is still going well as I start my last semester of Grad school. I’m thankful that it’s almost done– my interest in the subject matter has tanked considerably after my last two classes threw a few curveballs and I grew increasingly frustrated with a professor who created a project for us based on stuff she decidedly didn’t teach. Yeah, I know, sour grapes, but added to the fact that the odds of me finding a place to work within my field of study where I currently live is almost next to nil has killed my enthusiasm.

As for the site, I recently made a much needed update to the What is Pre-Code? page, and have a few additional pages that are getting researched to hopefully help fill this information out some more. There’s also a weird bug in WordPress where posts aren’t dropping when they’re supposed to. I’m not sure why, but hopefully this issue will correct itself (that or you’ll be reading this post well in to June).

It’s a pretty light month for pre-Code on TCM, so I think it’ll be a good month for clearing out your DVR. Welcome to summer, and let’s all hope our air conditioners don’t break.

    Oops, my bad. Thanks!

Hepburn’s first Oscar was for Morning Glory, in 1934, not Spitfire. But she’s always fun to watch!

Danny, I was watching a movie I dvred called war nurses so pre-code as one of the nurses ended up pregnant after a one night stand with a pilot in ww1. Anyway I looked it up in a MGM book I have and in the index found a picture of Norma Shearer with Mr and Mrs Will Hayes the other actress in the picture was……Marion Davies. Ironic that the guy who finally ended our great era of movies was pictured with two of the most risqué actresses! I thought about scanning it if you want to post on your website. I really enjoy your site. I get so many garbage emails but yours is one of the few I look forward to. Keep up the good work.!

War Nurse is great, and I’m glad you liked it. Thank you for the kind words, and I’d love a scan of that. I’d also like to know the name of the book– I have a book on the history of Paramount which is proving invaluable as I learn about pre-Code, and having one from MGM would probably help a ton. Thanks!

Whar email should I sent the picture to? I buy movie books specifically about movies from the 30’s at a flea market near my home. I have quite the collection so much that I promised my hubby to slow down buying them. Anyway the book is MGM when the lion roars by Peter Hay 1991. I found the picture in the index when I was looking for war nurse. I will scan and send to you.

I got your email! Thank you, I’ll have to try and find that MGM book. I know how you feel about the books, my wife is the same way about me and Warner Archive DVDs. 🙂 Thanks again!
