I went to visit my parents the other day, and my mother smiled and asked, “So, do you still like pre-Code movies?” It hadn’t occurred to me that my last ‘Like’ review was This is the Night 2 1/2 months ago.
Of course I still like pre-Code films, though, uh, seeing a good one again would be quite a relief. TCM’s July line-up isn’t offering me a lot of hope, as it’s pretty meager pickings.
They are showing The Thin Man two days in a row; hard to get annoyed about that. And don’t miss The Lost Patrol or Consolation Marriage if you haven’t seen those. At least August will give us Summer Under the Stars, including days for pre-Code favs like Norma Shearer, John Barrymore, and Sylvia Sidney.
Hopefully things turn around soon. On, you know, everything in the whole world. Don’t forget to support the site’s Patreon if you dare and follow me on Letterboxd if you’re into that.
Stay safe out there!

Why is TCM showing so few pre-code films, compared to previous months?
