It’s finally release month for my new book, pre-Code Essentials, from TCM and Running Press! (I’ll get the hawking out of the way first: buy it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Bookshop.org, and/or Larry Edmunds.) I’ve been shilling it for a while now, and I’ll have a post up here in the next few weeks with some screenings Kim and I will be attending to promote the book, but, in the meantime, please order it? For yourself or for someone in your life who perhaps looks at current events and puts their hands on their hips and goes ‘wow, this sure seems like the early 1930s today’ because, by golly, they’ll get some good info out of it for themselves.
Kim and I recently appeared on Hollywood Kitchen with Karie Bible to talk about the book. I think you can tell the exact moment when I realized why Kim and Karie were seated for this video. Also, I definitely ate all those waffles that night.
While you won’t see Kim or I on the network, TCM is showing a number of films from our book on the night of the 28th, including Night Nurse and Employees’ Entrance, two of my faves. I hope they have good interstitials, or at least mention the book. Or maybe they’ll use an AI generated version of me talking about it with Ben Mankiewicz? Oh god, I hope we don’t start kissing. …. and yet …
Anyway, I’ll post in a few more weeks with more details for my trip back to the States and any other appearances that pop up. And if you get my book at any point, feel free to shoot me a comment or bug me on Bluesky. I hope you like it!
