I was flipping through the January Now Playing Guide a couple of weeks ago and I was literally drooling over the pre-Code screenings! Especially that one day devoted to Loretta Young! I better book that day off from work before I forget – eep!

Pauline Kael loved “Hallelujah, I’m a Bum.” “Al Jolson is in it, but he’s very good: he doesn’t get into black face or anything.”
