I was buying a copy of “Sight and Sound” in Berlin last week when I asked the clerk at the bookstore if they had the newest issue.

She pointed at the date– May 2025. “This is the newest issue.”

I had forgotten it was May. In my exhausted ‘what a year’ stupor, I had apparently mentally skipped ahead to July. This may explain a lot about my current state of mind. (May also held for me a bicycle crash, bladder infection, allergies galore, and a general malaise that comes from forcing yourself to write 5,000 words about Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.)

Suffice to say, one thing I am excited about is the forthcoming release of my book, Pre-Code Essentials, which I have mentioned here several times and don’t feel bad about mentioning again. October is only 4 months away! That makes this the absolutely perfect time to pre-order.

Anyways, I miss watching TCM. Can’t really get it over here, so you guys will have to allow me to live vicariously through you for yet another month. June has them with a morning of Pert Kelton pre-Codes on the 4th (weird thing to type tbh), a chunk of gay representation in pre-Codes on the 23rd, a pair of showings of the fun Kennel Murder Case and, sadly, two different Frank Fay movies popping up. Shame on y’all for that. There’s a bunch of great stuff coming up near the end of June, too, including some excellent Ruth Chatterton films.

Anyway, check it out, and be merry in… June? June. Definitely it’s June now.
